HR MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES
IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: THE CASE OF THE LITHUANIAN HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

The purpose of the paper is to analyse the challenges of HR management, related to four themes such as workforce burnout and stress, personal safety, job satisfaction, and post-crisis training and development, which have resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic in the hospitality industry in order to increase the level of resilience in the future difficult situation. To achieve the stated goal, a semi-structured interview on HR management experts of Lithuanian hospitality companies has been carried out. The results of the study have enabled the author to detail the HR management challenges (related to highlighted four themes) caused by the Covid-19 pandemic in the Lithuanian hospitality industry and find sub-themes that are potentially relevant directions of future research. These findings can help managers and decisions makers increase the level of resilience of the hospitality company in a difficult situation.

MANAGING THE INTELLECTUAL POTENTIAL
OF GLOBAL VALUE CHAINS IN THE CONTEXT
OF DIGITALIZATION CHALLENGES

This article delves into the interrelationship among contemporary economic phenomena, namely global value chains, digitalization, and the management of intellectual potential. The paper scrutinizes and underscores the antecedents that led to the inception of the global value chains concept, and delineates an evolutionary diagram of this notion.
The aim of this paper is to examine the importance of global value chain challenges and their impact in the digitalization context. To achieve this goal, the Delphi method of collective examination is used in order to conduct a large-scale survey with the involvement of economists working in the global value chains field. The results of the study show that the factor “Lack of skills in the use of digital technologies” is the most influential, and the factor “Corporate culture” is the least influential. A statistical survey was carried out, involving a sample of sixty respondents who are experts in the field. Subsequently, a number of challenges were ranked based on the scores obtained through the Delphi collective examination methodology. The research confirms the pronounced significance of macro groups encompassing challenges to cyber security and the degree of digitalization among the company’s personnel.
The novelty of this research lies in the proposed classification of the challenges of the global value chains in the digitalization context and conclusions obtained thanks to the collective expertise regarding the significance of the classified factors.

И ПРЕДИЗВИКАТЕЛСТВА ПРЕД СОЦИАЛНАТА ЗАЩИТА ПРИ МАЙЧИНСТВО В БЪЛГАРИЯ

Отправна точка на настоящата разработка е разбирането за майчинството като състояние, свързано с биологичната и социалната функция на жената за възпроизводство на човешкия род, осъществявана от майката с раждането и отглеждането на децата в най-ранна детска възраст и до придобиване на способности за независим в икономическо отношение живот самостоятелно или съвместно – в семейството или домакинството на родителите. Поставена на тази основа, проблематиката на социалната защита при майчинство придобива изключителна актуалност в условията на демографските и социално-икономическите предизвикателства пред развитието на съвременното общество. В изследването е направен опит за аргументиране на тезата, че системата от социални плащания при бременност, раждане и отглеждане на дете притежава неизползван потенциал да се превърне в работещ инструмент на демографската политика със съществен принос за подобряване на демографския профил на българското население, във връзка с което са представени и идеи относно възможностите за тяхното организационно развитие и усъвършенстване.
