The introduction of new information and communication technology into banking has radically altered the essence and character of banking activity. Alongside the competitive advantages and the direct economic effect of the advent of high-tech innovation in the banking sector, credit institutions are facing a number of challenges, one of them being to ensure the security of their products and related information. The main objective of this research is to elucidate the nature, instances, and methods of managing data security in commercial banks. An emphasis is put on some sources of operational risk in commercial banks which have a direct impact on the potentially growing risk in terms of data security. The research also focuses on the role of bank management in governing that process, as well as the methods and mechanisms for reducing the occurrence of the risk related to information security.

E-learning systems (EL) have established themselves as a key management instrument in business strategies for human resource management, for the improvement of the efficiency of processes for professional staff development and for the development of corporate knowledge. The aim of this article is to present some of the new concepts for EL – an ecosystem for EL, collaborative learning, lifelong learning, ubiquitous learning, EL as a method for knowledge creation and the generation of collective intelligence. Furthermore, it aims to outline the potential of the key information technologies – mobile technologies, Web 2.0 and cloud services - for the development of efficient strategies and models for EL usage, its transition into an efficient and effective business practice and its establishment as a leading, electronically implemented activity (e-activity). To achieve the objective of the research article the following methods have been used – logical methods such as analysis, synthesis and comparison, and theoretical research methods such as abstracting and summarizing. This article is dedicated to the problems of software solutions used for managing projects. A task like this one is full of many challenges because, on one hand, on the market there are many versions of software platforms developed for managing projects. On the other hand, the projects co-financed by the Operational Programmes of the European Union are very specific. These peculiarities are related mainly to the complexity of the documentation combined with the need of serious financial planning of the interim and final reports. Adhering to task schedules is a key moment in planning and returning of funds. The development of the research topic includes a description and an analysis of software solutions that are often used for managing projects. The article also provides a comparative analysis of project management software features based on a defined number of criteria and indicators. The findings of this analysis permit the formulation of recommendations for the development of new systems, which will allow users to manage the funds received under EU projects adequately, and according to schedules.

Over the last few years, interest in renting Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) has increased and this has led to the development of many new solutions of this class. The competition on this market resulted in serious changes in the business strategies of the providers of IaaS cloud services. We are witnessing an incredibly dynamic development of the IaaS market. This requires the thorough analysis of the current possibilities of the providers of such products and the direction in which they will be developing in the near future. The objectives of the present article are to analyse the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the IaaS solutions of the world’s leading providers of cloud services and to offer recommendations with reference to choosing an effective cloud configuration. To achieve the set goals, the study has used the Gartner’s Magic Quadrant research methodology; has collected and summarised data from the studied providers of IaaS cloud services and, based on these results has outlined parameters that can be used to analyse, compare and assess the leading world IaaS solutions.

The massive influx of mobile devices over recent years has radically altered ideas about employees’ activity and the dimensions of business. The rapid development of business, mainly through increased staff mobility, has promoted various concepts like BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), CYOD (Choose Your Own Device) COPE (Corporate Owned, Personally Enabled), etc. This has brought to the fore issues related to ensuring constant staff involvement in the work flow and designing channels for accessing information with no constraints in terms of time, location, or the type of mobile devices used. At the same time, businesses need to design strategies which ensure a balance between the convenience of using mobile devices and the security and reliability of corporate networks operation. This paper reviews the essence of the BYOD concept and the benefits it brings to business; it makes a comparison with the CYOD concept and analyses the COPE alternative, its nature and feasible approaches for its implementation.
